Changing our Perspective on the Rope Bondage

Many of us who have discovered BDSM for less time may consider that leather bindings for immobilization are enough. However, over time, trying and bonding with ropes, more simply at first, we may realize that bondage brings a lot of feeling, that it is completely different by the sensations it offers and that it is important to be approached with more inclination, being a BDSM procedure that must be learned and practiced in order to be able to fully enjoy it. But we discovered it is worth the effort.

Before, I understood bondage as a mean of getting to what was intended, not as an end. It was the shorter path to abandonment that leads to the subspace state because the immobilization of the body induces the liberation of the mind from thoughts and the abandonment to the subspace.

However, as sensual or ceremonial as it may be, the leather restrictions are short-lived: a few buckles to close, a few to make and that’s it.

Rope bondage, on the contrary, is more of a process previously considered tiring and time consuming. However, for some time, I have acquired a deeper appreciation of rope restriction, and strangely, it is precisely for this reason. By sharing my changing perspective on bondage, other people might find a similar appreciation of this important part of BDSM.

Yes, applying rope and making knots is slow, but it can be something very sensual, deliberate and enticing about this slowness. Learning to feel the making of rope bindings as a journey in itself (rather than a mean to another destination) has completely changed the way the ties were approached.

I hope that if you are confused or frustrated about rope bondage, my alternative and renewed views could help you change the way you further approach the rope bondage.

I have noticed people often too timid to learn rope bondage elements (or be a model for it) because it takes a long time to learn and experiment. Some Dominators, even experienced, visually like rope bondage. However, it might take some time to fully appreciate the rope bondage in practice because of the "steep learning curve."

The rope is like a language. It takes some time to assimilate basic knowledge and use it "fluently." No one should expect to be at the advanced level on the first day, the achievement will constantly improve with practice.

There is no way to rush your partner if he has to learn to make knots. However, it cannot be said that the practice of the rope bondage must be grueling or monotonous. On the contrary, some of the deepest induced subspace takes place under knots.

Although, I might add, you might be able to resist the need to "go into subspace" if you are not very harmonized with your partner or if your partner is new to rope bondage. In these cases, full attention may be needed to solve safety issues. I also do not advise you being tied to anyone you happen to meet: there should be a firm trusting base for such a high degree of surrendering. In a safe environment, with mutual trust and respect, the for rope bondage bottom can be incredibly satisfied, regardless of the experience level of the partner.

One reason for this is that kneeling or standing to be bound is a deliberate act and can also be meditative. And no, "deliberate" and "meditative" are not just different ways of saying "boring" and "grueling"! There is enough time and space for reflection and appreciation for the submissive being tied - in the silence necessary for the Dominator or Top to make the rope ties so that he can fully concentrate when making the rope knots.

This meditative quality of anchoring yourself "to the ground beneath your feet" may be due to the "slowness" of actual binding. It seems that in rope bondage (compared to other activities such as impact play or piercing), there is a relative lack of flagrant, intense rhythm stimuli. Therefore, it becomes easier for the subject person to focus on the stimuli present (perhaps sometimes undervalued): the smell and texture of the rope, the subtle glow of the fibers, the floor support underneath, the movements and knots made by the rigger.

In psychology, conventional techniques of keeping in touch with the reality of the person being linked, recommends conscious observation and quantification of sensory stimuli. It is said to help calm the mind and keep the person connected in mental contact with immediate reality.

In rope bondage, because there are not too many stimuli at the beginning - during the period of bonding, engaging in this conscious consideration of existing stimuli is almost inevitable. Thus, the feeling of mental and spiritual peace can occur for the bound part almost immediately, if it is open to receiving it.

Changing the perspective from eventual boredom and "stagnation" to "calm awareness" requires only a redirection of attention. Boredom and monotony tend to be experienced by a person who looks from the inside out ("insider"). Instead, calm awareness is experienced by the person scrutinizing their interior ("outsider")

When you're an "insider," you're used to it, you know all the inputs and exits from your circumstances. Looking out, circumstances can feel banal and terrestrial.

Instead, if you're an outsider (i.e. when you see yourself as a stranger or new in something), everything is more complicated but also fascinating. You tend to be more curious and interested. You're not bothered or bored by outdated surroundings (such as an insider): you continually struggle with your internal reactions and adapt them according to your experiences.

Cons intuitive enough, in this way, an outsider is almost more "a part of his experiences" than an insider. As an outsider, you feel things more vibrant and acute. By allowing you, this change of perspective can renew the experience of the submissive person who receives the rope bondage and make it more enjoyable.

Another point worthy of reflection is the truly deliberate action of staying to be bound, in itself. Because rope bondage takes longer to achieve, you need to stand still longer than you would have been needed, for example, in a consensual non-consent scene in which you would have been detained simply by physical force or body weight. In such a scene, everything can happen quite quickly and dynamically. Starting with the rope binding, you expect to have to stand still instead of struggling and waiting, rather than being physically overwhelmed or surprised.

This means that the decision or commitment you make to be bound is ongoing. It's not a decision you made at a certain passing moment. Instead, it's a commitment that spans several related moments – a commitment that you theoretically consider for as long as you're still there. The temporal breadth of the decision makes it harder to make, which is why standing to be tied to ropes is an act done with intent and decision.

You can take this intention to "sit and sit" and interpret it in your mind as another way of affirming your teaching. While you are tied up, you can reflect on your teaching to your partner. Recognizing your choice to continue surrendering to him is a powerful decision. It's representative of your high degree of trust in that person.

Alternatively, one can also observe how the rope is placed is also well deliberate. This achievement with specific depths realized, can transport the linked person directly into the depths of the subspace! The control and meticulousness of the calculated intention with which the Rankings achieve the bindings can bring enticing satisfaction late...

The practice of rope binding requires a lot of attention to detail and somewhat a calm nature, at least in those moments. Therefore, it is easy to feel vulnerable to others, or examined as a person subjected to rope play. There may be a sense of objectification. The submissive with a preference for light humiliation, objectification, or even specific fetishes as to be clothed or used, might find some variants of merging these fetishes with rope bondage. So, if you have been trying to learn rope bondage and you also have any of the fetishes mentioned, you could test the rope bondage practice that might be for you.

Obedience, connection and even sexual arousal are based more on your mindset than on your physicality. Therefore, by allowing you to relate to rope bondage in new ways, it can completely change your attraction and feelings for this BDSM procedure. Rope bondage might be one of the fetishes that require the highest skills, but that doesn't mean we should give it up. It is easy to be discouraged. Sometimes, approaching it from a more diverse perspective is all it takes to connect to this task in a refreshed and renewed way. If you have been participating in a rope bondage routine lately, or you are about to try, it might help you consider that rope bondage has more to offer than you can appreciate at first glance!
